This album really impressed and surprised me. Being a fan of Cursive for quite a while, I was apprehensive when this new album was coming out. While I loved Domestica, The Ugly Organ and the like I was not a fan of Happy Hollow or the direction in took. One listen to Mama, I'm Swollen and I was hooked. While Conor Oberst found his happiness and is off making cheerier Alt Country albums, Tim Kasher has only gotten more bitter, reflecting on a middle aged life of regret. Beautifully sad in many ways, reflecting the fruitlessness of our everyday monotony and suggesting that we have lost our animal identity on From The Hips. Closer What Have I Done? couldn't be better.

2009 in Music: Cursive: Mama, I'm Swollen

While Conor Oberst found his happiness and is off making cheerier Alt Country albums, Tim Kasher has only gotten more bitter, reflecting on a middle aged life of regret. Beautifully sad in many ways, reflecting the fruitlessness of our everyday monotony and suggesting that we have lost our animal identity on From The Hips. Closer What Have I Done? couldn't be better.
